Project Overview/Background
- We are now using our mobile devices for a wide range of activities, from communications, entertainment, to financial transactions like banking and shopping. Malware on mobile devices has grown tremendously with the increased use of mobile devices. Mobile device manufacturers and third-party developers have released anti-malware applications and features to defend against such malware.
- This project aims to research anti-malware functionality and applications on Android or iOS and assess their effectiveness.
Scope & Deliverables
- Study how mobile malware performs malicious activities and hides from a victim.
- Research into an anti-malware application and understand how it detects and mitigates against mobile malware.
- Assess the effectiveness of anti-malware features on existing mobile devices at detecting and mitigating mobile malware.
- Look into ways to improve the detection and mitigation of mobile malware.
Prerequisites/Skills Required
- Strong interest in mobile device security
- Basic C/C++ Programming and mobile application development
- Basic understanding of reverse engineering and ARM assembly language would be an advantage
- Applicant should indicate preference for Android or iOS (if any)
